The Coming Labor Shortage

As Chinese labor rates rise, Chinese pollution thickens, market demands for speed increase, and US energy independence becomes more likely, many companies are bringing work back to American shores. Just as was off-shoring, re-shoring is a function of money.

Unfortunately, over the past 20 years, manufacturing in the US experienced plummeting employment and experience leaving the industry for work elsewhere. Finding the kinds of experienced and skilled labor we need now is difficult.

You better get good at hiring for character and learning ability and fast, effective training.

If you aren’t aware of it, check out TWI (Training Within Industry) as a means to support the training and development side. Become familiar with Coaching Kata and Improvement Kata if you want constant improvement.

Your company will need to be as good at learning as it must be at attracting, selecting, and developing good people.
